THE PROCESS

Each baby reborn at my nursery gets a very first baby bath to remove its factory paint. This seemingly small step is actually a big step in the baby's over-all transformation.

Hand-painted by Me

I give each doll a baby-fair, translucent complexion using my unique technique which includes a pastel colorwash on the inside of its vinyl and beautiful soft layers of artist oils on the outside. Each layer is left to dry completely before the next is started and after several weeks becomes permanent. Some of my babies have peaches-n-cream complexions and some have a slightly splotchy newborn skin tone. It's always up to my customer! I gently blush every roll of baby fat and hand paint very delicate veins where the baby's skin is naturally thinner, such as on the eyelids, wrists, and ankles. These touches are very subtle and only visible when you are up close. In the picture below of baby "Elijah", can you see the ever-so-delicate vein running vertically down his forehead? Since all of my babies are entirely different, each time I strive for different results which makes each of my reborns entirely unique!

Fingers & Toes

Baby's nails are wonderfully realistic since I paint light pink nailbeds and very thin translucent white tips and half moons. They are triple sealed to prevent chipping or rub-off.

A Gorgeous Head of Hair

Each baby at Emily's Dream gets a gorgeous head of 100% mohair either in the form of a wispy baby wig, or hair which I micro-root over several days. The latter is a very time consuming process but is so worth the wait! I use premium angora mohair that feels buttery-soft like real baby hair and smells fresh and clean. Hair color is chosen by the customer to match baby's complexion. I meticulously thin every lock without the use of scissors and seal it permanently from the inside so you can wet and style it all you like. For sleeping babies, I micro-root wispy, delicate eyelashes to match the hair, and I paint barely-there baby brows and tiny tearducts. Below are examples of my micro-rooting.

Nose & Mouth

The nostrils are carefully sculpted open and backed with dark felt for a realistic appearance. If you look closely, there is a hint of moistness in them. You almost expect to hear a little sweet baby sigh! I delicately paint the baby's lips to blend with its skin tone, and finish with a hint of moisture where the lips meet.

Luxurious Doe Suede Body

Each baby has a custom-made doe suede body which allows me to create an accurately life-sized baby. The limbs are weighted with my very own fine glass beads (available to reborners under my Ebay seller ID, "portraitjumeau") and have been sealed to prevent leakage. There is no sand in my dolls which makes them acceptable for overseas shipping. I weight my dolls' torsos with a combination of Polyfil and contained polypellets, making them extremely cuddly and baby-plump! My dolls' heads are also realistically weighted and will need gentle support just as you would a new baby's.

My dolls wear size preemie, Newborn or 0-3 month clothing depending on which baby you order. Dressing them is so much fun and the possibilities are endless!

Each Emily's Dream baby is entirely unique and One-of-A-Kind. Although I can try to recreate one that you see on my website, please realize that all dolls are custom made to order and will vary.
